Day one: Bucharest
We all meet up at the International Airport of Bucharest, get acquainted with the guide who will accompany us through this mysterious journey of the unforeseeable, then we check into the hotel. For starters, we’ll have dinner at the “Dracula Restaurant” in Bucharest. As if just taken out from a vampire horror movie, the doorman greets us at the entrance and leads us into “the dark depths” of the tavern. Now, enjoy your meal if you’re up to it!

Day two: Bucharest - Bran ( 130 km )
They say that “early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”! We follow in the footsteps of Dracula, starting at the Old Royal Court in Bucharest, built in 1459 by Vlad Tepes, the ruler who later inspired the myth of the Dracula vampire. After that, we head for the small town of Snagov for a tour of the monastery which bears the same name. They say that the beheaded body of Dracula rests here in peace. There are many other thrilling things in store for us. The former fortress of the 16th century and residence of Vlad Tepes, the Bran Castle, looks dignified, dimly misty, and surrounded by incomprehensible mystery. You’d better not get lost in here! And if any of us loses their way into the secret passage...

Day three: Bran - Brasov - Sighisoara ( 140 km )
We reach Transylvania, passing through the city of Brasov, an important historical center, born in the 13th century. We cross the wide Valley of the Tarnava river. Nestled between two hills, there it lies, the splendid town of Sighisoara, one of the few and most beautiful medieval fortresses in Europe, still inhabited and functional. We are greeted by the Clock Tower, an impressive monument of medieval architecture, rebuilt by the Austrians after a fire disaster, and endowed with a mechanism that sets in motion wooden figures standing for the week days. We feel the past coming alive, overpowering the fleeting present moment. This is where, back in 1431, the legendary figure who would later come to be known as Dracula, was born.

Day four: Sighisoara - Bistrita - Piatra Fantanele ( 180 km )
We “pierce through” the heart of the mountains. The gorge in The Bargau Mountains, which connects Transylvania to Bukovina, “hurls” us to the skies. We are closer to heaven and experience a feeling of boundlessness. This is the very spot that inspired Bram Stoker, one of the famous Dracula authors. We decide to live the “scary” experience of a night spent at the hotel named after the famous vampire. The “Dracula Castle” hotel, opened in 1983 and built in the style of a medieval mansion, placed at 1,116 meters altitude, towers over the vast scenery of the mountains. The comfortable lodging warms up our souls, the thrilling sensations stir up our imagination.

Day five: Piatra Fantanele - Sibiu ( 200 km )
We share our overnight impressions of “the house of the vampire”. On our way to the city of Sibiu, we allow ourselves a short halt in a town that lives by high artistic standards: Targu Mures. In Sibiu, the century-old cultural tradition surrounds us. Good-natured people, narrow sloping streets, old and somptuous buildings bring forth the past at each and every step. By 2007, Sibiu will become the cultural capital of Europe. So as to fully get the flavor of the city, we close the day with a heavily wined feast at the “Old Sibiu” restaurant.

Day six: Sibiu - Bucharest ( 220 km )
Did Dracula really exist? Or was he the offspring of somebody’s overactive imagination, meant to get people scared in the dead of the night? On our way back to Bucharest, we will share our answers and enjoy our fresh memories of the suspenseful journey. In the capital, we go sightseeing: the Parliament Palace, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon, overwhelms us with its grandeur. The Village Museum, the nestle of Romanian rural traditions, is a serene wonder to our eyes. We make a stop in the Revolution Square to see the place where the rebellion flame of 1989 sprang from.

Day seven: Bucharest Departure
After a well-deserved breakfast, we will leave for home, with a bag full of... vampire stories. The legend lives by us, and the Romanian sights are worth becoming a legend. Will we be able to make our friends at home try it for themselves?
